“Do you need anything, honey?” Jon asked her
again for the hundreds time since she got up this morning.
“No, thanks. Sit down, Jon.” Kim told him. She
didn’t like it that he was walking around with his crutches so much.
“Yes, dear.” He said and sank down on the couch
next to her. She smiled softly. He knew she was still holding a grudge against
him.
He visited her every day in the hospital. And
rather soon he figured out that he wasn’t out of the dog house for his
behaviour. She simply decided to deal with it differently this time.
Jon watched her from the corner of his eyes.
She looked still really pale. And seemed to vanish in this oversized sweater
and pants she was wearing. He wished she would stay in bed until she was fully
recovered, but she told him she would go crazy and her body needed to get used
to some moving around again.
He sighed softly, when she was giving him one
of her best smiles. It would have been so much easier for him if she would have
continued to yell at him, but she was doing nothing like that.
For a little while he thought everything was
fine, but then he realized she was punishing him in another way. She was making
him do things he hated or at least disliked. Things that were getting on his
nerves.
Last night when they were home from the
hospital, she ordered dinner. He didn’t mind having salad, but he did mind
having a heavy load of coleslaw in it.
He also didn’t like it that he was sleeping in
one of the guest rooms right now. She told him it was for his own good, because
she was still waking up several times during the night due to coughing and
would wake him, but he knew it was because she was still pissed at him.
“So, what would you like to do tonight?” Jon
asked casual, not letting her see how much she annoyed him with her tactic. At
least he thought she didn’t see it.
“Well, we ain’t really mobile…so I would say,
we stay in. Order food? Maybe watch a movie?” Kim said. She was still feeling
rather weak. Just walking through the lobby yesterday, had her break out in
sweat. Her body needed a lot of rest to bounce back from the pneumonia.
“Ok, I will order the food today though.” He
reached for his phone immediately. Another coleslaw dinner was so not his
thing.
“Sure, baby.” She said and didn’t let him see
her smirk. He nearly lost it last night, when she set the plate down in front
of him. But he controlled himself, tossed a ton of dressing on his salad and
ate it all.
“How about Chinese?” he asked.
“Sounds good to me.” She agreed.
“The usual? Spice chicken and shrimp chips?” he
wanted to know while hitting the speed dial.
“Yep.” She said and got up.
“Honey, what do you need? Let me get it for
you.” He grabbed his crutches and was on his feet immediately. She nearly
laughed out loud.
“Jon, I need to go to the bathroom…..and I
don’t need your help there.” She said calmly and walked slowly to the stairs.
“Oh, ok.” He sat down again and dialled the
number of the Chinese take-out place once more.
For a second he thought about ordering her
something she wouldn’t like, but it would only get him in trouble. She was
capable of throwing him out completely and not only sent him down the hall into
a guest room.
“Dinner should be here in half an hour.” Jon
informed her when she came back. “What movie do you wanna watch?”
“Oh, I already picked one out.” Kim walked over
to the side board and pulled one of the many available dvd cases from it.
“I really wanna watch ‘My Big, Fat, Greek
wedding’” She told him dead serious.
“What?” he looked at her shocked and surprised
again. It took all her strength not to break down and laugh.
“My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding.” She repeated.
“But,…but ….really? A chick-flick?” he whined.
“I happen to like this movie.” She said and put
the dvd into the player.
“But Kimi, you like action movies and
football….not chick flicks….” Jon tried to change her mind. She only gave him a
stern look.
It was true. She favoured action movies over
chick flicks, but this movie wasn’t that bad. It wouldn’t kill her. Him though,
it would drive crazy.
He sighed deeply when he got the look from her.
He shook his head and grabbed his crutches to get up.
“That’s not fair….I wasn’t THAT bad….” He
mumbled to himself.
“What was that, Jon?” she asked promptly. He
froze and swallowed hard.
“Uhm…I’m getting the drinks. What would you
like, dear?” he said fast. Her right eyebrow rose. Shit busted, he thought.
“I’ll take some orange juice and water,
please.” She only said. Her typical Mt. Dew was out of the question, because it
didn’t go well with the medication she was still taking. Made her threw up last
night and gasp for air. She looked like shit afterwards and had to cover up the
tiny red blood vessel that became visible under her eyes this morning.
“Sure, honey.” Jon slowly moved to the kitchen
area. She watched him for a minute and shook her head when she could hear him
softly cursing about the way he was treated. It seemed she would have to keep
her tactic up for a little while longer, when he still wasn’t getting it.
Lol, poor Jon, still hasn't learned when to keep his mouth shut.
