Kim sighed and sat down in the last row of the studio. The band would record their interview with James Lipton for ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’ today and Jon asked her to come with him. She was very happy about the offer, especially after the last week’s events.
Since he returned to New York two days ago, they didn’t have a quiet minute. Actually they only saw each other, because they wanted to check on Jesse at the same time.
When Dorothea informed Jon about the incident after they had been at the hospital and found out that Jesse’s rips were not broken, he called her rather angry. She couldn’t believe it. He was mad that she didn’t call him first, but Dorothea.
She tried to stay calm, tried to tell herself that he was a worried parent who wasn’t able to be with his hurt kid right now. When she explained to him that she need one of Jesse’s legal representative with her at the hospital to get the necessary x-ray done, he hung up on her.
She wanted to call him back, but only got his voicemail. After the beep she left a rather harsh message, telling him to cool off and call her back in the morning when he should be able to think clearly again.
Exactly 6:30 am the next morning her phone rang and he told her he was sorry. He was just so frustrated that he couldn’t be there for his son and that his so called best friends treated him like this.
Jesse and him had a long talk on the phone and his son assured him that she was great and only started to give him a hard time when he tried to keep some of the things to himself. Kim had to admit she was surprised he confessed it to his father.
Jon sounded very frustrated and down on the phone and Kim wished she could wrap her arms around him and tell him everything would be fine again. Apparently he had the same need with Jesse. To give him some back-up and encourage him to stay away from the cigarettes even though his friends wouldn’t support him, Jon promised Jesse to buy him a Mustang for his 16th birthday.
His son immediately promised to never touch a cigarette again in his whole life. Kim smiled when she remembered Jesse’s excited face when she was visiting him. He was sitting in bed with a bunch of pillows behind his back and scanned through the newest Mustang models. He didn’t seem to mind that he had to wait over a year to get the car.
And now she was sitting here alone and waiting for the recording to start. Unfortunately Fran couldn’t be with her, because Jason got sick with a cold and fever. She really wished she could have talked to Fran in person about all this, still wondering if her reaction maybe were wrong or not appropriated. But she only had a short talk with Fran on the phone and she could tell her best friend wasn’t completely into it, but checking on her sick son.
Rich and Fran didn’t seem to have any problems when it came down to their kids. Kim knew that they sat down and talked about their future. How they wanted their kids to live, what would be important for them, when they move in together and even if they wanted to have kids together.
Jon and her never talked about those things. They simply jumped into their relationship and even though Kim hated to admit it, she got the feeling that the way they were living their lives right now could be incompatible.
Not only the events with Jesse brought this thought to her mind, but also their separation due to his work and the less time they would spend together in the next months. She knew very well, that he couldn’t make any huge changes in his live and she wouldn’t want him to, but she wasn’t sure she could just give up her job, everything that defined her life in the last years. She was a doctor with every beat of her heart. She sighed deeply. They really needed to talk.

“I’m sorry.” It were the first words Jon said when she opened her door. She went back home after the show was recorded and he promised her to come over a little later.
“I know, Jon. You already said that.” Kim told him softly, when he handed her a single red rose.
“And then why do I get the feeling that something is still nagging on you.” He wondered when he pulled her down on the couch next to him. She sighed.
“Because it is.”
“What’s wrong, honey?” he was starting to get concerned.
“Wrong? Nothing, not really I would say.” She got to her feet again and started pacing through the room. Jon watched her irritated.
“We never talked about how things should go on. Where we gonna live? What’s important? What about kids? We just jumped into all of this.” She pointed out.
“Honey, why should we plan all that? Why don’t we take it as it comes.” He tried to wrap his arms around her, but she pulled away.
“You don’t understand, Jon! I need to know if you see a future for us together, if you want more kids or not, if you wanna live in New York, New Jersey or somewhere else.”
“Why is at all so important?” the forcefulness in her voice confused him.
“Because I need to know all this before I make dramatic changes to my life.”
“Changes? What changes?”
“I’m thinking about quitting my job.” She told him very calm all of a sudden. She thought about it over and over again in the last couple hours. If she really wanted to spend her live with him, this was the only way it could happen.
Jon stared at her.
“Jon, I wanna be together with you. It’s not possible when you are touring the globe and I’m stuck here in New York.”
“But you love your job.” He was totally taken aback by her decision. She smiled softly.
“Yeah, I do. And I’m not saying, I’ll never work as a doctor again, but I think if we really wanna give this a try, we have to be together.” She stepped closer to him and wrapped her arms around his body.
“We don’t even know, if we are able to live together. We spend a couple days together and then we both go separated ways again.” She pointed out. He nodded.
“Yeah, I know. I thought,… I don’t know, maybe we move in together after the tour.” She laughed out loud.
“Jon, the Tour is going to last for nearly two years. I’m sorry to say this, but if we kill each other while living together, I would like to know a little bit earlier.” He sighed.
“Yeah, maybe you are right. Seems I didn’t really think that through.” He frowned a little. “I wonder how Rich and Fran are doing it?” Kim looked at him surprised.
“She is moving in with him in LA late January, Jon. Don’t you know?” He stared at her.
“Why didn’t Rich tell me?”
“I don’t know, you gotta ask him. Fran and him already got the school waiting for Jason in LA, got him a new guitar teacher, …well, besides Rich…. and they picked out wall colors for Jason’s room together with Ava when they were in LA.”
“Wow! They really got it planned, huh?” She nodded.
Now he could understand where her sudden uneasiness was coming from. Maybe he would have reacted the same if Rich told him about his plans. It was weird. Normally he was the organized one and Rich was just going with the flow. It seemed this time his brother wanted to make everything right and not repeat the mistakes he’d made before.
“So, how we gonna do it?” he wondered. Kim sighed.
“I don’t know. Maybe we think about the apartment situation first. Yours, mine or maybe a new one?” Jon nodded.
“Yours would make sense because of the dogs.” He pointed out.
“But you would no longer that close to your kids.” He nodded again.
“Right.”
“Maybe we should think about it for a little while, before making a rushed decision here today. Besides I need to notify my boss and honestly I would like to stay till they find a replacement. I would feel bad leaving them short-staffed. The doctors are already working overtime. I don’t want it to affect the patients.”
“Ok, I can understand that.” He reached for her hand and pulled her close to him.
“Can I have some nice time with my girlfriend now?” He grinned at her.
“What do you have in mind?” she asked cocking her head.
“This.” He whispered before kissing her passionate.
