Chapter 48

Back in New York they stopped at Jon’s place. Kim would go back to her place later after they talked about his busy schedule which would come up with the band’s album release and the Premiere of their documentary.

“So, it’ll be busy you said. That means what exactly?” Kim asked while sitting down at his dining table.

“That means: Radio interviews, TV interviews, short performances and appearances on TV, photo shots, video shots and non-stop flying around and being tired.” Jon said without major enthusiasms. This was the part of his job he didn’t like. He wanted to play live, not mock in front of stupid cameras.

“Wow, that really sounds busy.” Kim said and wondered how they should manage to stay in contact let alone meet during that time.

“Do you already know when all this interviews will take place or does your management surprises you with them in the morning?”

“Well, they better don’t.” he replied dryly. “I think I have a print of the schedule somewhere…I’ll be right back.” He jumped up and left for his office and returned a couple minutes later.

“Here, that’s the print for the kids. I’ll email you a copy of it.” Jon said when he put the schedule on the table. He always gave his kids the schedule so they would at least know where he was.

“Wow, how do you manage to stay in touch with your family?” she wondered when she browsed through the papers.

“I simply make some room for them…and for you.” He added softly and wrapped his arms around her.

“Everybody knows that family comes first, not only mine but the families of all us guys. My kids can always call me, doesn’t matter how late or early it is…and the same goes for you.” Jon told her seriously.

Kim smiled softly. “Ok, but the same goes for you. Doesn’t matter if you wake me or not, if you wanna call me, you just do it.”

“Ok, deal.” He agreed, even though he would probably not have the heart to wake her in the middle of the night.

“Is there any chance the kids will meet you on the road?” Kim asked while checking the Tour dates and marking the days he would be in New York or close by in her calendar. She would try to take these days off. Her colleagues wouldn’t be too happy about it, but she took over their shifts so often and had so many long hours that she didn’t feel really guilty about it.

“Well, of course they shouldn’t miss too much school, but they will be at the shows here in New York, they will all fly in for the London shows, maybe you can take some vacation time too and come with them?” Jon suggested.

“I’ll try.” Kim nodded and marked the weeks in her calendar as well. She hoped she wouldn’t get a complicated case in those weeks. She wouldn’t be able to leave the kid with one of her colleagues. It just wasn’t her style. Her patients could count on her being there and not jetting around the globe.

Jon watched her carefully while she wrote the Tour dates down. Since they were back in New York she was no longer as relaxed as she had been in Napa Valley. It seemed as if the smoothing and calm atmosphere there helped her to push her sadness aside and it was coming back.

“Honey, what’s wrong?” he asked softly and kissed her temple. She smiled shortly.

“I’m fine, Jon.” She patted his hand which was resting on her right shoulder.

“You are thinking about Tyson, right?” Jon squeezed her shoulder when she nodded agreeing.

“I was just thinking that I can’t go with you to Europe when I have such a case. I can’t leave the kid or his parents alone in such a situation.”

“Kimi, I totally understand that.” He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.

“I would never ask you to come with me when you have to deal with such a case. I would probably be a little bit grumpy…but that’s something Rich and the guys have to deal with.” She chuckled softly.

“Poor Richie.”

“Nah, poor me. He will probably be the same when Fran can’t come.” Jon pointed out.

“Then we better hope we can make it.” Kim whispered.

“I’m sure you will.” Jon encouraged her.

“Yeah, you are probably right. Enough of this!” She suddenly said resolute and straighten her back.

“So, the kids will only see you in London and here?”

“That’s the plan so far……Oh, and Romeo will see his first show on his birthday in D.C. He is already totally excited about it.”

“He never saw a show before?” Kim wondered.

“Nope, when he was younger he reacted rather sensitive to loud sound. So we agreed on waiting until he was a little older. He begged me during the last leg of the last Tour, but I told he has to wait until he’s six years old. He was over the moon when he figured out there’s a show on his birthday.” Jon explained grinning.

Kim grinned as well. “You made sure there’s a show on his birthday, right?”

Jon nodded. “Guilty!”

“So how high are the chances that pap-rats will get a picture of us when I come to the shows?” Kim asked a little nervous. Jon wrapped his arms around her again, calming her.

“Well, they ain’t allowed inside the venue, I would say the fans taking picture is a much bigger chance inside.” Kim nodded. “But I really wanted you to come to the premiere of the docu with me, honey.” Jon continued softly.

She nodded again. “I know, but can you imagine the press’ reaction when we show up together there for the first time?”

Jon frowned. “You are right. Our relationship would be all over the press, but nothing about the band. That’s not what I want. It wouldn’t be fair to the guys.”

“Yeah.” Kim agreed. “So any idea? Any events for you before the premiere?”

“Nope, actually we try to limit our public appearances before an album release is announced. I’m pretty much not existing in the public for the next few weeks.” He told her.

“Interesting.” Kim checked her calendar again. “I have a charity event in the Central Park Boats House over at the park in two weeks. Care to join me?” She asked with a little smile.

“Yeah, sure. Everybody will be surprised because my name isn’t on the guest list. That should be fun.” Jon grinned as he imagined the press’ reaction.

“You really enjoy making fun of them, right?” Kim asked.

“Hell yeah. They are way too easy.” Jon laughed.

  1. Great plan, Kim! They will drop their teeth when JBJ shows up unexpectedly. Love that they're working the schedules out so they don't let this lapse. :o)
