“Jon? What are you doing?” she asked chuckling.
He turned around when he heard her voice.
“Nothing. Don’t look.” He tried to block her
view at the kitchen counter with his body. Her eyes wided when she realized he
was wearing her deep pink apron and it was covered with big chocolate spots.
“Maybe I can help?” she suggested, holding back
a laugh, when he ran his hands over his face and ended up with chocolate in his
face as well.
“No, no…it’ll be fine….please, Kimi.” He looked
at her with pleading eyes. He really wanted to surprise her. She sighed.
“Ok, ok…but please, do sit down every now and
then. Your leg still isn’t healed.” She still had to make sure, he would give
his leg the much needed rest from time to time. That was actually the only
reason why they would stay in today.
“I promise, honey.” He sounded relieved that
she wasn’t trying to enter the kitchen.
“Hon, what are you doing?” he asked when she
sat down on the couch. She looked at him surprised.
“Uhm…I thought I read a book?”
“Why don’t you take a walk in the park, find a
nice place to sit and read it there? It’s such a beautiful day today.” She
laughed.
“Ok, ok…I get it. You don’t want me here. I’ll
take the dogs and we are out of here.” She walked to the closet to get a light
jacket and the dogs leashes. He frowned lightly.
“Actually,….I do need the dogs.” He said
softly. She looked at him surprised.
“What in the world are you planning?” she asked
amused. He gave her a big smile.
“You’ll see later. It’s a surprise. It’s your
birthday after all……now get out!” he added playfully.
“Ok, ok…please don’t burn down the building.”
She told him before she closed the door behind her. Jon smiled softly and took
a deep breath before returning to the kitchen.
*************
After three hours Kim decided he’d had enough
time.
The sun was setting. It was getting a little
chilly, she was hungry and had finished her book.
Entering the lobby of the San Remo she smiled
at Ed. She stopped in front of the elevators, but hesitated to push the button.
“Would you please call upstairs and let Jon
know I’m back, Ed?” she told him.
“Uhm…sure Miss Anderson.” He looked at her little
irritated, but made the call.
“Mr. Bongiovi is ready and awaiting you, Miss
Anderson.” He informed her.
“Thanks Ed. Any unusual circumstances while I
was gone?”
“Miss?” by now the concierge was completely
confused.
“Ambulances, Fire Fighters…vets?” she asked
with a laugh while waiting for the elevator.
“No, Miss Anderson.”
“Good. Thanks Ed.” She said grinning when the
elevator doors closed behind her. Seems her kitchen was still existing.
Kim entered the apartment and hung her jacket
into the closet. But she didn’t step around the corner to get the full view of
their living and dining area and the kitchen. If he wanted to surprise her, she
wouldn’t ruin it.
“Jon, I’m home.” She called out and placed the
book on the small table next to the closet.
“We are right here, hon.” He said.
Curiously she stepped into the living room. Did
he invite guests?
“Oh, Jon. What did you do?” she gasped
surprised.
“Happy Birthday, my love.” He said smiling.
“You are unbelievable.” She whispered.
Their dining table was decorated beautifully.
Small pink flickering candles were placed between the dishes and glasses and
dowsed the whole room in warm inviting light.
Delicious pasta, salad and wine were waiting
for her and at the end of the table sat a sad, bent, wobbly looking chocolate
cake with one pink candle. Behind the cake she could spot a couple neatly
wrapped presents.
To top it all off, Jon was wearing a black tux,
a white dress shirt with shining bright pink cufflinks and a pink bowtie. She
laughed lightly when she realized her two beloved dogs, who were sitting
expectant next to him, were wearing pink bow ties as well.
Shortly she wondered how he managed to put the
ties on their dogs.
“That’s too much.” She whispered and started to
tear up.
“It’s not, honey.” He said softly and wrapped
his arms around her before kissing her deeply.
“How about we eat before everything gets cold?”
he guided her to the table after finally being able to pull away from her.
“Thank you.” She stood on tip toes and placed a
lingering kiss on his lips before sitting down. He took a deep breath and
willed his body to calm down.
“It really smells delicious.”
“Hmm….” Jon agreed. Raising his injured leg to
a chair, he watched her pick up her fork. Carefully she took a bite of the
pasta. She smiled.
“You didn’t cook this. It’s from Becco’s.” she
said grinning. He laughed.
“Of course, it is. I’m not suicidal. It took me
already all day to make this cake…” She laughed and looked at the wobbly cake
with its bumpy icing. It looked like it wanted to fall off the table any
minute.
“…I have to say though, it took a little while
for them to agree to the delivery. I’m pretty sure it’s much easier for you.” She grinned at his words and
they continued their dinner.
“Want some cake?” Jon asked afterwards.
“Is it safe?” she asked giggling.
“Well, I only used the ingredients from the
recipe….so, yes.” She laughed and accepted the plate from him.
“And your first present.” He placed one of the
gifts in front of her. Excitedly she unwrapped it.
“Oh, that’s sweet. Thanks baby.” He got her favorite
perfume.
“Which one next?” her eyes sparkled. He laughed
and handed her the biggest box.
“Oh …my…God….Jon! That’s ….wow.”
In front of her lay a lady-like deep pink
leather tote bag with double top handles.
“It’s beautiful.” She whispered.
“I thought of you, when I saw it.” He smiled at
her.
“Oh, but it’s way too much.” She told him when
she spotted the label. Michael Kors. She knew those bags ran easily around $
1.000.
“Nope.” He simply said and gave her a long
look.
“Thank you.” She got up and kissed him deeply.
He pulled her on his lap.
“Now, the last one.” He handed her a smaller
box.
After unwrapping it, it became evident that it
was jewellery. Carefully she opened the box.
“You are nuts.” She had no idea what else to
say.
The box held a Frederique Constant Double Heart
watch. It looked very classic and elegant with the black leather watchstrap.
The details though made it unique.
The stainless steel rose gold clock face was
framed by tiny diamonds. Each number was replaced by a diamond as well. The
numbers 11, 12 and 1 were missing though and replaced by two tangled rose gold
heart shapes. The smaller heart held a sapphire in its middle.
“It’s perfect for you….and you needed one.” He
said while gently putting it on her left wrist.
Well, he had a point. She really needed one.
Actually she never wore one, because she was worried a kid might get hurt while
she was examining it. So she simply didn’t wear one. But this one was way too
expensive.
“Jon…it’s beautiful, but…” she had tears in her
eyes. He stopped her words by softly placing his right index finger on her
lips.
“Shhhh….don’t…..stop worrying about showing off
pretty things. You deserve every single diamond in there…and my heart as well.”
